Tim Hitchens is a Furniture Designer, Maker and carpenter.

Tim is a furniture designer by training but now uses his knowledge in a wider design context. After graduating, he went to work for Terence Conran which gave him the opportunity to study, learn and gain an invaluable insight in to the world of modern furniture design. He then went on to set up his own studio and began taking private commissions, initially, for on off pieces. Tim then founded Design by Timber which now specialises in producing creative, inspiring products for both personal and commercial clients. He diversifies between designing/making bespoke furniture and stunning bar/shop interiors.

Tim can currently be seen onscreen in the new 6 part Channel 4 series The Great Home Transformation with Emma Willis and Nick Grimshaw were he designs and makes various projects for the families featured in the series. Tim’s previous onscreen credits include hosting “Discovery Day Trip Designer”, a series on Discovery, which saw him travelling throughout Europe searching for designer specific iconic items and co-presenting two series of Dream Holiday Home for Channel 5 in which he not only designed new, but repurposed existing pieces of furniture and renovated and redesigned rooms for the perfect holiday homes. He also filmed for Our Home UKTV and has guested on House Invaders BBC. Tim’s easy manner and sense of humour soon made him very popular with the viewers.

In the 20 years of trading Tim’s talents have taken him to exhibit his furniture at Sotheby’s in London, he won the furniture category of the ‘Bright New Things’ furniture competition and many of his designs have been featured in interior magazines such as Elle Decoration and World of Interiors.
